Preparing for that December Road Trip

Get Ready Now!

The year has reached the point where it’s starting to wind down and the December holidays are mere weeks away. Now is the time to start preparing for those long drives to ensure a comfortable and safe journey. Here are a few tips on how to make your road trip great. Our first tip for making your trip more comfortable is to clean up your car. Get rid of those fast-food packages, cans, receipts and anything else lying around. Then add a dedicated container for any trash you accumulate during your road trip. While you’re at it, make sure you get an air freshener in your car to get it smelling good. If needed, vacuum, polish and shampoo your car’s interior. If you know your way around a car, check out your vehicle about a week or so before your trip. Fill up any fluids as necessary and if you have concerns, take it to a mechanic to have it fixed. This could save you a lot of time and frustration during your trip. Delays are sometimes inevitable, so prepare for it. You might need to drive around a certain area due to unforeseen circumstances, such as wild fire or flash floods. Should something take place, stay calm and take it in your stride. If you’re driving with others, put one person in charge of monitoring news sites and traffic alerts in the places you’re driving through. If you’re not in a hurry to get to your destination, get off the highways and visit small towns and attractions scattered across the country. This will involve switching off your GPS as they usually only show the fastest, most direct route. Doing so will definitely make your journey more enjoyable. Note: Make sure you study the maps beforehand so you don’t get lost in the bundus. Make sure your MP3 player is stocked up with amazing songs that you and your passengers love. At the very least, it will drown out the monotonous sound that comes with driving. Have one of your passengers be in charge of this. Remember to pack chargers that plug into your lighter socket. Many insurance companies provide roadside assistance, but if this is not the case with yours, make sure to sign up for a roadside assistance provider to make your life easier should something happen. Now all that’s left to do is finish up the work year and pack for your holiday. Enjoy!
