AutoZone empowers LSEN learners in the Basic Hard Skills: Motor Mechanics Centre at Roodepark School

AutoZone recently donated four AutoKraft toolboxes, each packed with 103 essential tools, to Roodepark School. Located in the West Rand of Johannesburg, the school caters to learners with special educational needs, offering a hands-on approach to education that equips them with real-world skills and practical experience.

Roodepark follows the Technical Occupational Curricular (TOC Special Education) and the Differentiated CAPS (DCAPS) curriculum, both designed to equip learners with hands-on experience and life skills. The school runs several hard skills centres – including woodwork, welding, sheet metal work, building, and construction, and offers a dedicated stream for motor mechanics, where learners develop technical abilities that prepare them for real-world employment.

The donated toolboxes will be used in the motor mechanic workshops, helping learners practice and refine their skills using professional-grade equipment.

Andre Janse van Rensburg (National Operations Manager at QSV), Joshua Jagpath (QSV Brand Manager for Johannesburg and East Rand), and Krystle Stewien (AutoZone’s Marketing Manager), handed the tool boxes over to Mrs. H.F. van der Merwe (Roodepark School’s Principal) and Mr. C.A. Coetzee (Deputy Principal).

“At AutoZone, we believe in supporting the communities where we work, especially when it means helping young people who want to build a future in the motor industry,” said Krystle Stewien. “This donation is about more than just tools. It’s about giving learners a chance to build real skills and see a future for themselves in the world of motor mechanics.”

AutoZone is proud to support initiatives that help learners develop practical skills and gain experience in the motor mechanic field. We believe that providing access to quality tools is an important step in helping young people prepare for the future and explore their potential in the automotive industry.
